Programme

The Leon Levy Foundation Conservation Centre at Nagaur, in collaboration with the Mehrangarh Museum Trust and The Courtauld, is promoting best practice in conservation through its :

  • Programme of teaching to provide conservators working in South Asia with both the knowledge and tools for undertaking a wide range of conservation activities and assessments of both moveable and immoveable cultural heritage. From 2015, there will be 6 weeks of intensive teaching to 10 students;
  • Conservation of the highly important wall paintings of Nagaur Fort. This began in 2005 with an essential survey and condition assessment of the numerous schemes [Bogin 2005] and continues with targeted interventions—preventive, passive and remedial. Currently, the extensive paintings of the Hadi Rani Mahal are being conserved by a team of professionals, led by Amarilli Rava;
  • Provision of regional conservation facilities to support conservation in Rajasthan. This includes laboratories for analysis of materials, microscopy, and digital imaging, as well as teaching and study areas

In concert with its teaching and conservation activities, the Leon Levy Centre encourages dissemination of best practice through providing reference sources on site and by disseminating the reports here. Links to the major conservation reports are on this page.
